Volunteers Week takes place 1-7 June every year. It's a chance to recognise the fantastic contribution volunteers make to our communities and say thank you.
Volunteers' Week is supported and celebrated by small grassroots organisations as well as larger, household-name charities. Volunteers are always active at the heart of every UK community. So, taking the time during Volunteers' Week to celebrate and recognise their efforts and all they contribute to our local communities, the voluntary sector and society as a whole has never been more important.
Every year hundreds of events, both online and in–person, take place to celebrate Volunteers' Week and the huge range of ways in which volunteers give their time. This year will be no different. A wide variety of activities will be happening across the country from volunteer recruitment events and open days to celebration and recognition events, What is Volunteers' Week? – Volunteers' Week (volunteersweek.org)
We at Citizens Advice also want to use this opportunity to look back and thank our amazing volunteers. Citizens Advice nationally has over 20,000 trained volunteers and we in Portsmouth have over 25 working with us.
"Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in. "
Citizen Advice volunteers come from a range of backgrounds and volunteer with us for different reasons. Our roles are varied, challenging, and rewarding and our volunteers really enjoy being able to make a valuable contribution and a positive impact on people's lives. Please do contact us if you'd like to get involved.
