Are you struggling to pay your energy bills? Do you want to save money and help the environment at the same time? If so, you might be interested in the Citizens Advice Portsmouth Energy Advice Program (EAP) an initiative, funded by the energy companies. This is a specialist energy advice service for clients who are or are at risk of fuel poverty.
We will give free and impartial advice on how to reduce your energy consumption, switch to a cheaper tariff or supplier, apply for grants and discounts, and deal with any problems or complaints.
We launched EAP on the 1st October 2023 and it will run until 31st March 2024. We know, more people than ever are struggling with the high costs of day-to-day essentials, with a major factor being home energy, despite the recent price cap reduction. With Winter on the way, there are growing fears of unmanageable energy costs and homes with poor energy efficiency, forcing households further toward negative budget situations.
Our EAP campaign aims to support residents through the coming months and arm them with the advice they need to improve home energy efficiency, reduce consumption, to save money, and access any extra help they are eligible for. You may not realise that you can get help towards the cost of heating and lighting your home especially if you are on a low income or claiming benefits. This advice service is available to people are wholly or mainly on a low income and/or vulnerable, and therefore in or at risk of fuel poverty.
It's not rocket science! We will give you simple tips and advice on how to keep warm, keep energy efficient and keep your costs down and help our struggling planet. Wasting energy means more of it has to be produced, and burning fossil fuels is a major source of carbon dioxide (CO2) making climate change worse. But you can make some easy changes at home to make a difference. Simply put, energy efficiency is about using less energy to get the same job done and, in the process, avoiding high energy bills and unnecessary pollution.
At your appointment, you will also receive a FREE Surviving Winter pack, full of helpful energy advice, information and practical freebies, to help you save money, save energy and stay well (worth ££).
We can help you with:
- Finding the cheapest energy supplier and tariff.
- Dealing with fuel debt, including help to negotiate affordable payment arrangements and grant applications.
- Information on grants for insulation and other energy efficiency measures.
- Budgeting for future energy usage.
- Understanding your energy bill and setting heating controls.
