To celebrate the Platinum Jubilee, we decided to look back over the last decades to see the activities happening for both ourselves and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, during her long reign.

DECADE CITIZENS ADVICE REIGN OF QUEEN ELIZABETH II
1930s 1935: The Government considers the need for an information service linked to the fledgling social welfare service. Elizabeth's father becomes king when his older brother, King Edward VIII steps down. Princess Elizabeth becomes heiress presumptive.
1940s 1942: The number of bureaux peaks at 1,074 and one even operates out of a converted horse box that parks near bombed areas. Elizabeth, aged 21 at the time, marries Philip Mountbatten in Westminster Abbey Elizabeth gives birth to her first child, Prince Charles, at Buckingham Palace
1950s 1950: Funding from the Ministry of Health is cut. The service continues thanks to the support of charitable trusts such as the Nuffield Foundation, Carnegie Trust and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. Princess Anne is born in Clarence House. Following the death of her father the previous year, Elizabeth's coronation takes place in Westminster Abbey. She ss crowned Queen Elizabeth II, at age 27.
1960s 1960: Funding from the Government for the national body is restored. 1965: The national total for enquiries reaches 1.25 million. Prince Andrew is born at Buckingham Palace. At the age of 37, Queen Elizabeth gives birth to her fourth and final child, Prince Edward, at Buckingham Palace.
1970s Consumer protection becomes a priority. 1973: A development grant from the Government is given to the national charity. The Queen's 25 years on the throne is celebrated with Commonwealth visits and a public holiday.
1980s Two recessions mean a growth in poverty and enquiries rise in line with this. Prince William is born to Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales.
1990s 1999: www.adviceguide.org.uk is launched, allowing people to access advice online 24 hours a day. The service celebrates its Diamond Jubilee. The Queen and Prince Philip celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary with a special garden party at Buckingham Palace for couples also celebrating their Golden Wedding.
2000s The National Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux changes its name to Citizens Advice and, in Wales, to Citizens Advice Cymru To celebrate her Golden Jubilee, Queen Elizabeth travels more than 40,000 miles in 2002. She also visits 70 cities and towns in 50 counties in the United Kingdom.
2010s Citizens Advice delivers advice services from over 3,400 community locations in England and Wales, run by 360 registered charities. April 21, 2016, Queen Elizabeth celebrateds her 90th birthday. The milestone is marked by a national service of thanksgiving, and a street party of 10,000 people along the Mall.
2020s The coronavirus pandemic causes unprecedented challenges for our service. In our busiest week on record our website has 2.4 million views. Queen Elizabeth delivers a special broadcast in relation to the coronavirus outbreak. The Queen's husband of 73 years, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, dies aged 99 in 2021. 6 February 2022 Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II.
